The definition of architected.info

This month Baseline did it again with a fantastic interview with Richard Harrington, the CEO of Thompson.  If you aren’t familiar with them, they are a company that provides very targeted information services and tools for fields such as tax, legal, accounting, finance, healthcare, and academic research.  At one time they were a media conglomerate (publishing over 200 papers worldwide) but have since transformed into a 21st century information provider.   The comparison between Thompson and the woes of traditional newspaper publishing are very stark.  Instead of focusing on repeatedly auctioning themselves off or blaming Craigslist, the company has transformed itself over the last five years, increasing its profits by about 40% and its margins by almost as much.

Anyway, the thing that caught my eye was a quip about how to deliver information:

… if you want to make information work for you, you have to understand how work flows.  We have found it useful to observe what our customers are doing three minutes before they make an important business decision and three minutes after.Armed with this knowledge regarding their workflow, we can deliver precisely the information that customers need to make and follow through on their decisions—at exactly the moment they need it and in a form they can readily use.

Wow! Harrington gives the perfect definition for architected.info, from soup to nuts.
